WHY: The mission of the Quince Project is to provide teens with the tools they need to succeed as young adults, with a principle objective to encourage leadership within their own communities. Participants will foster cultural pride, build life skills, develop leadership talents and discover their voice.
WHO: The Quince Project is seeking female applicants ages 14 to 16 to take part in the upcoming project. Young women will be chosen based on their leadership, volunteer and academic experience. Primary emphasis will be given to girls who have overcome a significant obstacle or face financial hardships.

ABOUT THE QUINCE PROJECT:
The Quince Project is a summer leadership program geared towards
helping Latina teens make the transition from girlhood to young adult through a
quinceañera celebration. Members learn about their heritage and the
cultural significance of a quinceañera as they work in small teams to develop
leadership skills and organize a group quince. The Quince Project aims to inspire young girls to take pride in their culture, self
and community as they begin their transition into strong young women. A group of madrinas rally together to make quince dreams come true by volunteering their time and resources to contribute elements essential to
a quinceañera. Community support is needed to guarantee a special day for quince project members in the form of venue space, catering, décor and quince dresses.

QUINCE PROJECT HELPS GIRLS PLAN THEIR OWN CELEBRATION
To help make quince dreams come true for deserving girls,
madrinas with the Quince Project are hosting a Charity Quinceanera on August
15th at Sunshine Ballroom. The Quince Project is a summer leadership
development and cultural program that provides a free group quinceañera
celebration to deserving girls. The mission of the Quince Project is to provide
teens with the tools they need to succeed as young adults, with a principle
objective to encourage leadership within their own communities. Participants
will foster cultural pride, build life skills, develop leadership talents and
discover their voice.
Throughout the summer, girls ages 14 to 15 have participated
in leadership, cultural and volunteer projects to help them prepare for their
transition into young women. Members learned about their heritage and the
cultural significance of a quinceañera as they work in small teams to develop
leadership skills and organize a group quince. The Quince Project is geared
toward inspiring young girls to take pride in their culture, self and community
as they begin their transition into strong young women. Young women were chosen
based on their leadership, volunteer and academic experience and primary
emphasis was given to girls who overcome a significant obstacle or faced
financial hardships.
To assist girls throughout the community with their own
quince celebrations, the Quince Project is hosting a Quince Dress Fair on
August 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with quince
and formal dresses available for $5-$10. The Quince Project is hosting a Quince
Planning Workshop on August 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to help girls learn
to plan their quinceañera with this fun and informative planning workshop.
Participants will get tips from event planning pros on picking a dress,
make-up, hairstyling, fashion trends, do-it-yourself, budget planning and event
timeline. All participants will take home a quince planning kit to get a
jumpstart on planning their own quinceañera.
A group of madrinas have been rallying together to make
quince dreams come true by volunteering their time and resources to contribute
elements essential to a quinceañera. Sponsors include Eloida’s, Sunshine
Ballroom, Chubby’s Bronx Deli, Adela’s Flowers, Cakes by Lupita Ontiveros,
Bonnie Nava Hair Stylist, My Nails by Sylvia and Supreme Laundry Cleaner’s.
Community support is needed to guarantee a special day for quince project
members in the form of venue space, catering, décor and quince dresses.
Donations are currently being accepted of new and gently used quince and formal
dresses at Label Exchange – Consignment & Boutique (9530 Viscount Blvd).

WHO: Young women were chosen based on their leadership, volunteer and academic experience. Primary emphasis was given to girls who have overcome a significant obstacle, a traumatic experience or faced financial hardships. Girls committed to leadership workshops and service projects during the summer as they worked as a team to plan their group quince celebration.
